Jaecoo
which is part of the Chery Group, claims to be one of the premium brands from China in Indonesia. However, this does not necessarily make the company position itself to always target upper class consumers.
Through the latest J5 EV product, the company seems to be presenting a pocket-friendly product whose price is close to an affordable and environmentally friendly car (Low Cost Green Car/LCGC).

This car comes in two variants which are sold to the first thousand buyers, namely IDR 249.9 million and IDR 299.9 million. This price is quite affordable for a five-passenger electric SUV, even cheaper than its twins, Chery E5 Pure Rp. 369.9 million and E5 Rp. 399.9 million, to its competitors in the same class.
For comparison, the potential rivals of the J5 EV in the electric SUV segment are the Hyundai Kona Electric which is priced at IDR 516 million to IDR 629.4 million, and the BYD Atto 3 with a price of IDR 390 million and IDR 520 million.

Meanwhile, the cheapest LCGC price tag currently is IDR 138 million up to IDR 202 million.
Zeng Shuo, President Director of Chery Group Indonesia, revealed that setting the price for the J5 EV which seems ‘cheap’ or selling for IDR 200 million is a strategy to make the Jaecoo brand more widely known to the Indonesian public.
“We have sold well in Europe, but we are still new to Indonesia. We are new, so we need a good relationship with consumers. Currently in the EV market there are still people who are worried about trying new brands, or worried about what the resale value will be like,” said Zeng in Jakarta, Monday (3/11).
“So [we give] consumers a suitable price straight away, so consumers don’t need to worry too much, they can try it first, I’m confident that the resale value of this J5 will be good,” he said again.
According to him, the presence of the J5 EV will not only have a good impact on the company, but also on the country’s electric car market as a whole. He believes this car will be a new choice for consumers.
“So Jaecoo provides a new option for people who like classic SUVs, iconic designs,” said Zeng.
Separately, Jaecoo Indonesia Country Director Max Zhou said the J5 EV was part of the company’s important journey to compete in the electrification segment in Indonesia.According to him, even though it is included in the car category targeting the B segment, the price tag for this car is considered very affordable.
“This electric SUV is included in the B Class EV SUV category, but is offered at a very competitive A Class price range,” he said.
The J5 EV is an electric car with dimensions of 4,380 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, 1,650 mm in height and 200 mm in ground clearance.
In the power sector, the J5 EV is powered by a 155 kW (210 PS) electric motor with peak torque of 288 Nm, which offers responsive instant acceleration. Then the 60.9 kWh battery provides a range of up to 461 km on a single charge (based on NEDC standards).
Then 130 kW fast charging allows 30-80 percent charging in just 28 minutes.
The J5 is also equipped with 17 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), 6 airbags and a 540 degree HD panoramic view camera to make it easier for drivers to detect blind spots when maneuvering on narrow roads.
